Any other coastal inhabitants experiencing any Sargassum weed inundations?

The Western coast of the Gulf of Mexico…not enjoying the beach at the moment.

After it’s had time to decompose a little, local surfers describe the remnants in the water as “shreaded wheat.” Let’s say it distracts from the surfing experience.

NOAA has a Sargassum weed tracking map. Looks like Playa del Carmen is getting some. If you haven't already done so.. surfered 7 hrs ago #5

I was there a year ago and it was really bad. Stinky in the vicinity, no swimming for me. In January we returned…there was less of it, removal efforts in high gear (successfully) and the conditions much much better.
Hoping for the best this time, but also prepared for different activities while visiting.

but it makes sense. Also noted that with warmer ocean waters more of it grows ... so that's not good.

We are about an hour north of surfside or galveston - up in the burbs. For us it's the start of hurricane season (and this year heavy mosquitos in this swampland from all the rain). The old-timers tell us where we live now used to be rice fields.

it happens April or may. So it's happened already? (Coastal texas) Haven't heard any complaints, anyway.
