The Western coast of the Gulf of Mexico
not enjoying the beach at the moment.

After its had time to decompose a little, local surfers describe the remnants in the water as shreaded wheat. Lets say it distracts from the surfing experience.

(10,786 posts)I was there a year ago and it was really bad. Stinky in the vicinity, no swimming for me. In January we returned
there was less of it, removal efforts in high gear (successfully) and the conditions much much better.
Hoping for the best this time, but also prepared for different activities while visiting.

(37,377 posts)but it makes sense. Also noted that with warmer ocean waters more of it grows ... so that's not good.
We are about an hour north of surfside or galveston - up in the burbs. For us it's the start of hurricane season (and this year heavy mosquitos in this swampland from all the rain). The old-timers tell us where we live now used to be rice fields.
