If Trump Is So Unpopular, Why Does He Still Dominate the GOP?

President Trump’s approval ratings have fallen to some of their lowest levels since his return to the White House. Yet despite his weak national standing, Trump-backed candidates continue to win GOP primaries, and Republicans seen as insufficiently loyal to the president are increasingly finding themselves pushed to the political sidelines.

For many Americans, that disconnect can seem puzzling: If Trump is so unpopular nationally, why does he still hold such enormous influence within the Republican Party?

Political analysts say the answer lies in a combination of forces reshaping modern American politics: deep partisan polarization, Trump’s enduring grip on the GOP base, conservative media ecosystems, and an electorate that increasingly views politics through the lens of party identity rather than personal approval of a single politician.

The result is a political environment in which weak national approval ratings do not necessarily weaken the president’s standing within his own party, particularly in primary elections dominated by highly engaged partisan voters.

It’s probably the same answer — Fear and/or Greed (the fuel of corrupt governments)

And it goes beyond fear of the president himself. They know that his attacking them it increases the chances that one of the unhinged maga cult will go after them.

He's evicted the old style Republican political order.

1. A lot of Republicans believe that is liberals hate him, he must be doing something right.
2. Partisan media. When your news filter screens out any negative news, you miss important news, which slights your opinions.
3. Every President while in office is the most hated man in America. Even Lincoln was despised while in office.
4. Fear, as noted above.
5. There's a vacuum besides Trump. No one else is in a position to hold sway like Trump.

From the first Star Wars movie (was that really 49 years ago?).

The Republicans haven’t yet figured out that the emperor has no clothes, and that big spear of his has no blade at its tip. Maybe they never will. It took the Germans a carpet bombing of their cities before they realized that their Führer was leading them straight to Hades.

his Stephen Miller -- Roy Cohn -- duped the conservatives. McCarthy lied like djt does. Joe even lied about being a WWII hero, which, at that time, carried political gravitas.

Broadcast and print media finally broke through to the public, which influenced Congress, and the tide began to turn. Similarly, it will take we the people to stuff Trump's BS down his own throat by refusing to support all Repugs.

It's a mistake to look at national polling.

For example... poll 5 million people in Los Angeles and there is 20% support level...

But go to 20 cities of 250k people and he's at 50% support

Anti-Trump sentiment is DEEP but not broad.

Just look at 24 election results.
