A US judge on Thursday declined to block President Donald Trumps executive tightening rules on mail-in voting in a loss for the Democratic Party, whose lawyers argued that it could disenfranchise millions of voters.
The decision comes as Trumps Republicans are locked in a tight battle to keep control of both houses of the US Congress in the November midterm elections.
Trump has for years pushed the false claim that his 2020 election defeat was the result of widespread voter fraud and has criticised voting by mail.

(1,502 posts)I don't see how enabling the Executive branch to undermine our voting rights and opportunities is considered legal or Constitutional
Sounds like blatant election interference

(24,218 posts)Judge allows Trump to try and implement his election EO.
It is unenforceable, and the states will ignore it as they have ignored all the other election EOs.

(26,689 posts)It requires the understaffed PO to have to get election registration data and then somehow sort the mail in ballots to it before delivery.
Who knows what they do with the ones that don't match?
The PO isn't funded to do this, and it feels like a violation of the establishment clause of the PO in general. They were established to deliver mail, not determine voter registration.

(3,010 posts)States can ignore it anyway. Oregon is 100% mail in voting or very close to it. The people of Oregon would not even be allowed to vote if Trump's EO was actually a law but it's not. The constitution is clear.
