Jill Biden says she thought husband was 'having a stroke' during 2024 debate

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c99l270vy3no

Former US First Lady Jill Biden says she thought her husband, President Joe Biden, was having a stroke during his infamously faltering presidential debate in 2024.

"I was frightened, because I had never ever seen Joe like that before or since. Never," Jill Biden told CBS News, the BBC's US partner.

"I don't know what happened," she said. "As I watched it, I thought, 'Oh, my God, he's having a stroke.' And it scared me to death."

President Biden faced intense pressure from fellow Democrats to step down as their candidate after a poor debate performance against then-Republican candidate Donald Trump. Biden ultimately dropped out of the race and endorsed then-Vice President Kamala Harris.

The former first lady's interview with CBS News Sunday Morning's Rita Braver will air on Sunday.

I was very cautious to ask a question and posit a possibility, as opposed to making an absolute statement.

You made an absolute statement. What if you're wrong?

I absolutely do not think Joe Biden merely "fucked up". It was a transitory episode. It could have been a medical episode, or it could have been something else. I still don't know.

to explain his debate performance.

That is absurd. Truly. Like, I'm sorry, but if you are entertaining that as a "plausible scenario" I suggest you reevaluate.

And it wasn't a transitory episode. Biden negotiated 1 debate, very early in the season. He was being framed as old of it and frail. Because he looked old and frail. And he was not nearly as press-forward as he had been early in his career.

He had one job - not to fuck up the debate, and he did. No speculation there.

Incidentally, he also had STAGE FOUR cancer which had spread to his bones after the election was over.

Let's not add Havana syndrome to the mix. He is old. He isn't the debater he was in 2020 and certainly not the one he was in 2008.

Why Joe didn't say to Trump, "you're not fit to be president because you tried to overthrow the government witn your MAGA goons" is beyond me. I would have hammered that point over and over again!

just on the choice of anchors. CNN's two most right wing and anti-Biden hosts who refused to fact check Trump.

He shouldn't dignify him with a debate. In retrospect, that would have been wise.

It. It wasn’t fact checking that killed him, he was confusing Trillion with Billions and Millions, and then ended the sentence by saying “We finally beat Medicare.” Which didn’t fit into any part of the topic.

Biden came across as everything he was defending against the previous weeks regarding his age. The top guy needs to be able to handle a debate not avoid it. It just didn’t happen.

But not yet the party’s nominee. Neither was Trump. Plus one of the anchors was writing a book attacking him at the time. That is a gross violation of journalistic ethics.

His dad was taking Ambien a few days before the debate. That could have very much been the cause. It decreases mental alertness.

If he was being given ambien immediately before a debate, it is malpractice. It is a sleeping pill.

He should have been given espresso.

It is in the past. The media will pounce on her statement and exploit it for all it’s worth. Trump will use this to further distract from his problems.

I mean there was no reason for an incumbent President to have a debate in June. Heck Trump didn’t participate in any of the debates during the Republican primaries so Biden could’ve used that against him. He had nothing to gain from this.

Well. Ya learn new things all the time.

I have to give a public talk about early intervention strategies with autism in a few weeks.

And now I have to worry about brain lasers. Amazing.

I haven't been this bothered since I learned scorpions live in NorCal (and I still resent the person who told me this).
