(114,830 posts)2. Nixon was corrupt as hell, but he did do a lot of good: establishing EPA, ultimately ending Vietnam,
He signed the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty and initiated the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks (SALT I) with the Soviet Union, which were crucial in reducing Cold War tensions and established normalized relationships with China. He did at least care about the environment.
And, while it was a different time, he still retained some integrity that allowed him to do the 'right' thing ultimately and resign once cornered with evident corruption/misdeeds.
So, comparatively, I guess, if I had to choose...
