In the first Trump administration, HUD issued guidance to landlords reinforcing that emotional support animals and other assistance animals were not considered pets, and were protected by the Fair Housing Act. Officials noted that emotional support animals provided therapeutic emotional support for people with disabilities.
Six years later, the housing department, under the leadership of Scott Turner, has moved aggressively to tighten rules and scrutinize public housing rolls, including by focusing on the immigration status of tenants.
The memo to housing officials on assistance animals presented emotional support animals as a loophole to circumvent a landlords pet policies, asserting that an entire industry has emerged to convert pets into emotional support animals.

(1,776 posts)With emotional support animals.
You can legally charge pet deposit or charges for pets and now every dog is an emotional support animal. Airlines finally cracked down on this. I watched a dog years ago bark the entire flight then snap at that man next to it. That was a certified emotional support dog as the woman told everyone.
Im a #1 dog fan, but your eyes are closed if you dont see how half of these dogs are now a scam.

(1,776 posts)Go speak to apartment landlords. I traveled weekly on airplanes for decades. They registers dogs and cats constantly to get out of pet deposits or charges.
Go online and see the bs people pull trying to get dogs into restaurants. The abuse of the system is crazy.
The airlines have thankfully tightened policies and there is significant pushback from business owners. Its for a reason.
