No one likes abortion. It means something went wrong. Regardless of the reason, many people need to have an abortion, which is why it needs to be legal and accessible.

you probably do know someone, in fact, who was happy to get an abortion but they didn't share it with you. There is so much societal pressure to go along with the "nobody likes abortion" trope but when we treat abortion like the healthcare it is, then it can be viewed in a nonjudgmental light.

Another reason I thought your statement about them would have rather not have been pregnant at all showed ignorance is that many people who have abortions, in fact, really wanted to be pregnant but something went wrong. Like a missed miscarriage/fetal death, tubal pregnancy, molar pregnancy, the mother's health or life is at risk.

A woman whose pregnancy goes horribly wrong isn't happy about that. What she wanted was a healthy pregnancy that ended with the birth of a healthy baby. So yes, when the pregnancy test came back positive she was happy but what followed was immense sorrow and grief. You don't think she'd rather that hadn't happened at all? That if she'd been given the choice of not getting pregnant or getting pregnant only to lose the pregnancy she'd chose that?

I honestly believe there were a lot more abortions back then than there have been since abortion was made legal. The main problem besides not being safe is illegal abortions cost cash, a commodity poorer people don't have. That forces women without money to use self-inflicted methods. The jackasses in the GOP are too dumb to realize what a can of worms they just opened but they don't give a crap. Lording over women makes them feel manly.

There were no pills then, they had to undergo surgery with unsafe conditions. It was a terrible time before the Roe v. Wade ruling, and many girls/women died as a result.

I grew up in Saint Louis - not too far from Chicago. (I live in Pittsburgh now, but my early days were spent in St. Louis.) I hadn't come of age, so we younger girls were told NOTHING! Until we found out too late and some of us were stuck. Others were lucky and there was a complete unfairness and inequity to the whole entire thing. If the young woman's family was rich, they had a way to "save" their daughters.

It was an awful time and we can NEVER GO BACK!!! We can't allow the younger generation to endure this!

over the last ten years. I'm guessing that women can't get access to birth control because of closed clinics. I haven't checked to see if rape statistics are up. And I suspect the unsteady economy has people wondering if they shod delay having kids or simply avoid it.

clothes hangers, canning tongs, forks, no sterility, hemorrhage. After that, we got them in the ER and if the were lucky, their lives were saved.

Yesterday when I saw Hillary's post, I read it to my husband because I loved how accurate, concise and on target those 2 short sentences were.

Neither of us even remotely questioned the use of the word people. This is a winning message. Any one who came of age before Roe v Wade understands the second even if we didn't know anyone harmed by it.
