It makes him feel big and powerful and manly to threaten to destroy civilization.

I’m sure you are just trying to help alleviate some fears. My guts and calculations, based on very limited knowledge, tell me his statement is mostly bluster, but I hate how effective his ability to make us imagine the worst helps create an environment where the nation accepts behavior and speech that would historically be political suicide. If you push things far enough into the extraordinary, it seems that we are willing to accept the not as bad. Witness when the media talks about Trump acting presidential after one speech, the relative silence about ICE right now, how many people are on board with the Iran war if not to the extent of Trumps comments.

It is important economically. But taking the island only slows down Iran oil shipments, which are slowed anyway. Iran can simply turn off the valve sending oil to that terminal. And if we try to hold the island , Iran can just lob mortars at the sitting ducks there.

Mortars can be dealed with. It's a bargaining chip. It's also infinitely more morally defensible than turning off the electric for an entire nation. My lord.

I don't think many have been listening to the experts on what a disaster Kharg would be. We could take it but would lose many trying to hold it. They would not have any air defense and drones/rockets could be fired from deep within Iran and mountains. And if we managed all that, Iran can still turn it off as you said. Also, SoH would still be closed. Why would we think Iran would allow us to sell their oil? That's crazy. And if they can't have it, they certainly won't let anyone else have it. They'll destroy fields there after taking out surrounding GCC fields that would destroy world's economy for decades.

There is NO military solution for this. They just have to live and survive to win. It's a war of attrition.
