(132,657 posts)perfectly okay for OUR FUCKING EMPLOYEES to be, and remain, ABSENT, when OTHER federal employees are forced to work without pay, when we clearly have a fuckIng, deranged, murderous lunatic with his finger on the button, with everything in crisis, simply because they called easter recess? Which other employees in ANY department in our government, or any company in this country, get TWO WEEKS of Easter vacation? Kindly list them, please. I would greatly appreciate if you could kindly explain what I am clearly missing.
And, I frankly do not give ONE FUCKING DAMN that they have previously taken off for easter recess. I DO NOT FUCKING CARE even if they have done this for the entirety of this nation's existence. We have a number of serious crises to deal with, and OUR FUCKING EMPLOYEES SHOULD BE DOING THEIR FUCKING JOBS.
Does their defiant inaction fit the definition of treason? They sure as fucking hell are giving aid and comfort to our enemies everywhere. You are entitled to your opinions, but then, so are the rest of us, and we find their inaction beyond disgraceful and disgusting, and yes, even approaching treasonable. I truly hope we survive the current horror show, but I have my doubts.
Greg_In_SF
(1,287 posts)that was asked as the OP, and attempted to help someone understand what constitutes treason. I don't recall offering up my opinion on whether they should be in recess right now or not, but I am aware how you feel about that.
I do happen to disagree that by simply being on vacation they are providing aid to our enemies. That makes no sense to me.

(132,657 posts)my questions.
Greg_In_SF
(1,287 posts)it's fine that they went home to their families to celebrate Easter. That's a no brainer. If something goes wrong at work shortly before I am scheduled to go on vacation, you can bet your butt I'm going on that vacation. Had Congress not gone on vacation, what exactly would you have expected them to accomplish?

I answered the question you asked me. There is no further need to 'try', as I have already addressed your inquiry.

Treason is the only word for it.
Denial will not save us and is now counterproductive.

(1,287 posts)crime of betraying one's country, typically by attempting to overthrow the government or aiding its enemies.
Going on a scheduled vacation doesn't even come close to treason.

(81,515 posts)Sticking our heads in the sand is exactly how we have come to this point.
What will it take for people to wake the hell up and realize we are in danger?
And that the GOP is complicit in crimes against our country.
The time for making excuses for these bastards is over.
Greg_In_SF
(1,287 posts)The definition of treason itself, or the fact that going on vacation as scheduled is not treasonous?

(3,595 posts)Jeez, these people that work so, so, so hard and get some of the best perks in the world.
I mean, power... fame... money... security... a free gym... discretionary accounts... personal assistants... office space... flags... a little plaque with their name on it...
Vacation for half the year...
Helluva a career choice. No wonder so many treat it as a career rather than a temporary, urgent mission-based calling.
It disgusts me that they weaponize their recesses and I am amazed, routinely, by the complete failure of Congress (both the Speaker and Majority Leader) and the tepid opposition from the minority.
Every Democrat should be there every day.

(36,779 posts)Since there are several who are confused this morning
* House of Representatives: Speaker of the House - REPUBLICAN Speaker Mike Johnson - he said it's vacation time and left Washington
* Senate: here are the top roles -
President of the Senate / Vice President of the United States: JD Vance (R) serves as the presiding officer of the Senate and has the sole power to break tie votes Wikipedia+1.
President pro tempore: Chuck Grassley (R) presides in the Vice Presidents absence and is third in the line of presidential succession Wikipedia+1.
Majority Leader: John Thune (R) head of the Republican majority, responsible for setting the legislative agenda and managing the flow of bills
source for info: Wiki
* My senator is Ted Cruz (R) - If he's not here in Houston, he's in Cancun (source: I live near Houston)

(125 posts)If Democrats are officially locked out of their offices, I would love to see them out front on the steps with their sleeves rolled up . At the very least looking like they are united and working and will not be stopped.
It would make a good image. Perhaps no substance, but I suppose it would be a nice sight to see.
