Ive posted over the weekend that my 90+ stepfather had a fall and cuts on his hand/arm on Friday. Hes the first of three generations of Marines. He, Mom ❤️, and I spent the weekend working out getting in and out his chair, getting in bed (a lot of pain), etc.
Im leaving out location details for privacy.
Hes a Marine. I was a Cav Scout. Theres mutual respect on many others things but we dont agree on a lot of things
.but theres Mom ❤️. Thats unanimous.
Everyone from the first responders to neighbors to the hospital filling a pain prescription (that he refused on Friday - stubborn) on Easter Sunday when EVERY other pharmacy was closed to just everyone were great.
Mom got a call this morning at about 9:00 from the VA. A catch up call from the weekend.
Tomorrow or Wednesday at home they will have:
A physical therapist
A nurse to address wound dressing, meds, bathing, hydration, etc.
An occupational therapist to go over getting in and out of bed and bath.
Me: Occupational therapist. Good. Its about time this deadbeat got a job - He laughed.
A Home Maker Program person AT HOME 1-3 times a week.
THEN at 1:00 we got another call. Theyve reviewed the chart and theres no referral for an Orthopedic Surgeon. My Mom said shed prefer he not to have to get in a car and travel 90 minutes to the VA center. No problem, well get this local through the hospital The same hospital that filled the Rx on Easter.
Community- their bank heard what happened and are going to see about someone coming 1-2 a week so Mom can take a break and get whatever she needs done done.
My spirit is uplifted. Hes doing much better. He can get out of his chair to the walker because
.hes a Marine
..and Mom ❤️.

(153 posts)Go this page on the Disabled American Veterans web site, enter your zip code and you'll get the contact info for the nearest DAV office. Call and ask to speak to a National Service Officer. An NSO can help you make sure your step-dad is getting all the medical, home care and other VA benefits he's entitled to receive. The DAV helped me obtain my benefits including one I barely knew how to obtain.

Tell your step-dad an Air Force chief says, "You're tougher than woodpecker lips!" That'll put a smile on his face!
