It is a dramatization of the Scopes Trial of 1925. It is stunning how little things have changed in 100 years.
At one point Henry Drummond (Clarence Darrow for the defense) says, "Fanaticism and ignorance is forever busy and needs feeding. And soon, your honor, with banners flying and drums beating we'll be marching backward! Backward! Through the glorious ages of that 16th century when bigots burned the man who dared bring enlightenment and intelligence to the human mind." America is moving backward at a a staggering pace
I recommend it to everyone.
If I needed an example of how we are going backward at break neck speed, I found when I pressed Preview that this movie is age restricted. Presumably because the topic is evolution. vs legislated religious belief. How far we have fallen.
