I shouldn't have.
I really, really shouldn't have.
It goes against the basic rules of librarianship.
But I couldn't help it. There's a certain type of person who, when they ask if we have any books by Rush Limbaugh, makes me respond with, "Could you spell that? I'm not familiar with them."

I am proud that, for my entire career, when someone asked for Ayn Rand I refrained from saying: "If you can't find it yourself, she doesn't want you to have it."

I once had somebody walk up to me at the reference desk and ask for redemption. It took me a second to realize they were looking for the religion books, not absolution from overdue fines

(4,339 posts)... also known as Ayn Rand, brought to mind that I once met that evil witch. I was a young, wet-behind-the-ears tag-along whom she barely acknowledged at a meet-and-greet following a malicious diatribe she was actually paid to deliver. My employers were rabid "Objectivists", and strongly encouraged me to accompany them to her talk. This was in '68 or '69, I think; somewhere in the way back when.
She was repulsive. My estimation of my employers took a nose dive after hearing her belittle people who were altruistic, among other things.

It's black, with white graphics. That's the only reason I haven't appropriated it. I look awful in black.
