We need a non partisan watchdog at the FCC, not a partisan attack dog.If Carr continues down this route, Democrats will hold him accountable. Threatening broadcasters licenses for war coverage this administration doesnt like is the worst thing Carr has done - and thats saying something.

(1,651 posts)It is unwise and dangerous not to do so. There have been numerous threads here about Fetterman and rightly so.
We must not turn a blind eye just because someone has a "D" after their name. They were elected to represent us.
Holding them to account is not bashing.

(45,940 posts)You do realize Carr is an unamerican TSF lapdog, right? But sure, let's slam the Democrat.
3_Limes
(507 posts)Yeah, yeah. I know we're in the minority, but on a daily basis I find myself wanting to scream "DO SOMETHING!!!!"
And I know I'm not alone.
(And maybe it's extra infuriating when Fetterman is one of your senators, so I might be extra cranky about this. )

Sen. Schumer is 100% correct here - what Carr is doing is vindictive, fascist stuff. Saying so shouldn't cause criticism of him while ignoring the actual vindictive fascist.

(4,079 posts)the criminal actions from republicans.
Below is from the movie "My Fair Lady" -- "Show me", which unfortunately represents what our party has been doing, strong words, strong letters that republicans don't even read and don't care, they continue to break the rules. I really hate to say this but, we know that if it was the other way around republicans would be on top demonizing every little word from Democrats, but as of now? They don't care about "words"...And let us not forget the famous quote "Sticks and Stones may Break my Bones, but Words will never Hurt".
Words!
Words! Words! I'm so sick of words!
I get words all day through;
First from him, now from you! Is that all you blighters can do?
Don't talk of stars Burning above; If you're in love,
Show me! Tell me no dreams
Filled with desire. If you're on fire,
Show me! Here we are together in the middle of the night!
Don't talk of spring! Just hold me tight!
Anyone who's ever been in love'll tell you that
This is no time for a chat! Haven't your lips
Longed for my touch? Don't say how much,
Show me! Show me! Don't talk of love lasting through time.
Make me no undying vow. Show me now!
Sing me no song! Read me no rhyme!
Don't waste my time, Show me!
Don't talk of June, Don't talk of fall!
Don't talk at all! Show me!
Never do I ever want to hear another word.
There isn't one I haven't heard.
Here we are together in what ought to be a dream;
Say one more word and I'll scream!
Haven't your arms Hungered for mine?
Please don't "expl'ine," Show me! Show me!
Don't wait until wrinkles and lines
Pop out all over my brow,
Show me now!

"IF"?!? The Chairman of the FCC overtly threatened to pull the license of any broadcast station that doesn't portray the news in a way this administration likes. Outside of actually doing it what more could he possibly do?
I mean the statement alone is enough to chill free speech and will now leave the viewer to question if he is getting the real news or just mandatory propaganda in favor of this administration.
Damn it. Actually do something. You know you don't have to all show up. You can continuously deny them a quorum and thereby prevent all votes.
In the Senate it's even easier. I mean that idiot from Alabama stopped the military promotions for weeks but somehow Democrats in the minority are powerless?
Quiet Em
(2,890 posts)Carr cannot actually do what he is threatening and Schumer firmly reminded him of that.
angrychair
(12,206 posts)Might not. Depends on if the SCOTUS is feeling particularly bootlickery that day. But the threat alone is normally enough in these types of cases.
Quiet Em
(2,890 posts)The other justices would never go along with this. Carr simply does not have that authority let alone it would be unconstitutional.

(12,206 posts)I've run out of adjectives to describe the number of different ways this administration violates the Constitution on a daily basis.
Quiet Em
(2,890 posts)I really do.
But Carr's threats are absurd and there are no hoops anyone can jump through to justify them. Carr is just tweeting out what the con tells him to tweet. It's quite pathetic.

(14,630 posts)Nope.
A quorum is a simple majority of non-vacant seats. Republicans hold majorities in both the House and Senate.
If every Democrat in Congress walked out, Republicans would love it, as they could carry on their fuckery completely unimpeded.
angrychair
(12,206 posts)As long as it doesn't violate the Hastert Rule.
But their majority is incredibly tenuous so there is no guarantee they would have enough votes as tht majority

(7,768 posts)I am curious as to how Dems will hold him accountable. Lack of specificity can be construed as an empty promise.

(2,890 posts)Carr is a weak man who went on social media to repeat what the con artist told him to say.

(12 posts)1. Force Schumer to step down as senate majority leader
2. Replace him with a fighter (Chris Murphy, Mark Kelly, Elissa Slotkin)
3. Stand up for the American ideals, not poll numbers
4. Deny quorum, shut the government down, take advantage of procedures, whatever it takes
