(3,211 posts)Its just as rational as celebrating any other thing on a given day. Theyre all our artificial constructs.
Think Ill have a slice of pie today to celebrate!
Dont forget to put Avagadro day on your calendar: 10/26, in honor of Avagadros number.

(2,501 posts)Thats how many I can remember. My son is in 7th grade and was surprised when he said I can name 5 numbers after the decimal yesterday and I rattled that off out of nowhere. Funny how we remember random stuff like that from school.

(76,545 posts)...I've never felt the need to use more than the 5 decimal plaves you listed.
In my scale-up days, we did a lot of surface to volume calculations in dish bottom reactors for better understanding heat transfer & laminar effects as we scaled up to say, 25,000 gallons.
None of our kinetic studies would have been better served by more precision than 3.14159.
If someone asked me to give me the number for pi, I'd more than likely say those 5 places, even though I know the next 5 places are 26535.
