Ohio State likely violated student's free speech over Israel-Palestine posts, judge says

U.S. District Court Judge Edmund Sargus, Jr. of the Southern District of Ohio ruled that The Ohio State University likely violated the First and Fourteenth Amendment rights of Guy Christensen, a student who was expelled from the school following statements made on social media about Israel and Palestine.

Ohio State was ordered to expunge any of Christensen’s academic records that indicate he was involuntarily dis-enrolled.

Ohio State’s legal team argued expelling Christensen wasn’t motivated by a desire to punish him for the content of his speech but by one intended to protect the safety of the campus community, according to a legal filing.

The case surrounded a series of videos Christensen posted on his personal social media pages expressing his opinions on Israel and Palestine. Christensen, a TikTok influencer who has more than 3 million followers, goes by the username “YourFavoriteGuy” on TikTok and Instagram. He is a self-described pro-Palestine activist and identifies as “anti-genocide” on his social media, according to previous CJN reporting.
