GoFundMe Ignores Own Rules by Hosting a Legal-Defense Fund for the ICE Agent Who Killed Renee Good

Wired.com
January 12, 2026

THE CROWDFUNDING PLATFORM GoFundMe is allowing a fundraising campaign tied to the potential legal defense of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent who fatally shot a civilian to remain online, despite company rules barring fundraisers related to violent crimes and past enforcement actions against similar campaigns.

The fundraiser titled "ICE OFFICER Jonathan Ross," seeks at least $550,000 to support potential legal expenses for the ICE agent identified as having shot and killed Renee Nicole Good, a mother of three and widow of a military veteran, during an encounter with immigration agents in Minneapolis.

The officer was first identified as Jonathan Ross, 43, by the Minnesota Star Tribune.

The GoFundMe campaign's stated purpose - raising money for legal services following a killing - directly conflicts with GoFundMe's terms of service, which specifically bars fundraisers that are intended to support the legal defense of people accused of financial or violent crimes.

You can alert GoFundMe about terms of service violations using the "Report Fundraiser" button directly on the campaign page.

How To Report a Fundraiser
1) Find the Report Button. (often near the top or bottom) to flag it for misuse, fraud or other violations.
2) Choose your reason (select the reason, e.g., potential fraud, misleading story, impersonation)
3) Submit details (provide as much detail as possible about why you think it violates terms, GoFundMe's team will investigate.

We should all do this, imo.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s useful for the family with the kid with cancer, but I’ve seen some absolutely absurd go fund me’s (one of the dumbest was a wealthy family of doctors using a go fund me after the LA fires last year).

Of course, even that doesn’t compare to murderers using it to fund their legal defense, given that will be paid for by our fucking tax dollars.

I haven't heard of one. There should be one for the suspended Ford worker, also.

The family of Good also had one. I believe they closed it when it reached around $1.5 million.
