Federal agent Harry Peless expected to plead guilty in child porn case

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent is expected to plead guilty to receiving child pornography after being accused of engaging in illicit behavior while on duty at an agency playing a key role in a crackdown on illegal immigration, federal court records show.

The expected plea by Harry Marvelle Peless, 51, of Newport was revealed in a federal court filing Monday charging him with one count of receiving child pornography. The criminal charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years.

His lawyer, Benton Martin, did not respond to a message seeking comment.

The criminal charge was filed six months after Peless was accused of sending obscene pictures to a police officer posing as a young girl and soliciting her for sex.
