A department memo says the US is freezing visa processing indefinitely for 75 countries, including Brazil and Nigeria, according to the person, who asked not to be identified discussing a document that hasnt been made public. Citizens from some of the included countries such as Afghanistan, Iran, Russia and Somalia already have little chance of getting a visa. But the move will be a shock for people coming from other nations on the list.
Fox News Digital reported the move earlier Wednesday. The move shuts the door to new travelers to the US for more than a third of the worlds nearly 200 countries, potentially upending work and vacation plans. It comes about five months before the US co-hosts the World Cup when hundreds of thousands of overseas visitors are expected.
The move comes after Trump threatened further visa restrictions after an Afghan national shot two National Guard troops in Washington late last year. Hes also moved to end deportation protections for Somalis amid a broader deportation push in Minnesota, home to thousands of people from the country.

(6,096 posts)It mentions "immigrant visas" specifically.
Not very familiar with the process but this implies it would be different from just temporary visitors.
The actual article is paywalled so I could not read the rest.
Still not good but would not implode the two sporting events
Any one know if there is a distinction?

(3,248 posts)This is a world they should not have fd with. Soccer tended to be a club sport hard to afford (lets say 2005-2015). Very hard for us to afford. Much time and financial sacrifice. Fees travel time etc. There is a generation of kids I would say? 8-grown adults??? That absolutely love soccer. And a lot of them are upper income. Had to pay money for club fees and travel to learn and train and make high school teams few scholarship opportunities in the club world. There are many many Americans that will be pissed off. The parents grew to love soccer as much as the kids. World Cup? Being policed and politicized? When all these fans could actually see that upper level of soccer? Not a good move for FIFA. Or the administration.
