Is AI making it harder to distinguish facts from fiction?

And, though there are ways to tell the difference, will people give up even trying? Maybe even give up trying to follow current events?

Will it become more difficult or even impossible to tell the difference one of these days?

Not talking about the politically engaged, like DU users, but general public.

and better, so it is getting harder to tell the fakes from the real ones. Meanwhile, we have so many gullible people who don't question what they see. Eventually, people just won't know what is real and what is fake.

Starting August 2, 2026, the European Union will enforce mandatory disclosure for content created with the help of AI.

Under Regulation (EU) 2024/1689—the world’s first comprehensive AI law—businesses must clearly label content that has been significantly generated by AI. This applies to anything that gives the impression of being fully human-made, such as written text, photorealistic images, or synthetic voices. If content is published without substantial human review or editing, disclosure will be required—and non-compliance may lead to penalties.

if only our laws came from our citizens and not just those giving the biggest well-targeted "campaign contributions"
