If any law enforcement agent, any ICE agent, is going to come to Philly to commit crimes, then you can get the F out of here, Krasner said at a news conference. Because if you do that here, I will charge you with those crimes. You will be arrested. You will stand trial. You will be convicted.

(5,627 posts)57 years ago today, Philadelphia accidentally created the most misunderstood Christmas story in sports history.
It was December 15, 1968. The Eagles were 211, Franklin Field was freezing, the season was already over and fans had reached full emotional collapse. The team thought the solution was a halftime Christmas pageant. Because nothing calms an angry Philly crowd like forced holiday cheer.
The planned Santa never showed up, so the Eagles grabbed a 19-year-old kid from the stands, who happened to be in a Santa suit and tossed him on the field. Meanwhile, it had snowed, fans had been packing snowballs all game (as one does), and morale was somewhere near the Delaware River bottom.
Was Santa drunk? There is no evidence of that although rumors still persist. What did happen is snowballs flew, some hit Santa, a legend was born, and Philadelphia has been defending itself ever since. No arrests. No injuries. Just a bad team, a last-minute Santa, and a city already pushed too far. And yes
were still hearing about it 57 years later.
Only in Philly.

Kudos to the Philly DA

(165,890 posts)When he was first elected, he cleaned out all the bullshit crap that had gone on for decades (4 terms) under Lynn Abraham (and then the mess of the elected predecessor, who was eventually indicted and charged for fraud, bowing out and leaving an interim in until the next election), and his opponents ripped him a new one, but he persisted.
He is one of the few but growing number of "progressive" D.A.s (formerly a defense attorney), who despite some stumbles along the way, has made some significant changes to prosecuting - particularly in light of many decades of criminal police conduct that eventually ended up in the city paying out millions and millions for false arrests and malicious prosecutions.
And as a somewhat laid back and unassuming (on the outside) D.A., he is actually a firebrand when the need arises.
I have been trying to find the video clip but it's all on "social media" (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook) or on Faux Snooze. The D.A.'s office hasn't uploaded their press conference yet on their youtube channel.
But here is the Philadelphia Sheriff's comments at the same press conference (where a bunch of outlets have videos of HER remarks on youtube but not of Krasner's remarks, which is probably intentional - the local TV stations danced around his presser and only offered some selected clips of him without the money shot one) -
