The "SNL" alum also explained why he regrets "being a Hillary stan" during the 2016 election cycle.

Amid growing political tensions in the United States, Las Culturistas podcast cohosts and actors Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers have weighed in on where they think the future of the Democratic party lies and it's not with Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett, they feel.
...
Looking toward the 2028 presidential election cycle and the future of the Democratic party, Rogers forecasted that "it's not going to be [California Gov.] Gavin Newsom" who leads liberals to victory on the ticket.
"Any time a politician is making it too obviously about themselves, I'm already done. And don't waste your money sending to Jasmine Crockett. Do not do it. Don't do it, you're going to waste your money," Rogers said, looking into the camera. Yang added, "I must agree," before Rogers explained himself moments later.
Rogers said he didn't want the party to "flop by putting up whatever everyone said they hated in the beginning, which is an establishment California Democrat. It doesn't work," he estimated.

(12,598 posts)Well, that's their opinion. They're entitled to it. How about telling your audience why Texans should vote for Talarico over Crockett?

(10,873 posts)From the article:
Rogers toyed with the idea of supporting James Talarico, who's running for the Senate in Texas as well.
"I haven't seen him before. It would be hard for them to define him as anything other than what he is, which is a rising Democratic politician from some place like Texas who is, yes, speaking a little bit to the middle, but at least he's someone we can't define already," voiced Rogers. "Gavin Newsom is defined. I believe Jasmine Crockett is defined. I'm just trying to win, here, and I really feel differently than we did in 2016. The way to win now is to go with the energy."
I'm about to bounce to gym, so I s'pose now is as good a time as any to catch up on the episode. I've been dying to hear Bowen's SNL exit stuff.

(10,873 posts)First of all - they're right. Crockett is unlikely to win in Texas. No matter how anyone feels about her, it would be a waste of resources. We see this play out again and again where the longest of shots get promoted and people sink money into these losing campaigns based on social media popularity - and social media is very good about talking itself into these losing battles for some reason. We should stop doing that. It's not electorally effective.
Second, trying to go after two of the most popular cultural figures at the moment (and gay ones at that) for not bending the knee properly.
I don't think so, honey.

(7,870 posts)Seems every time a Democrat even begins to stir a following somebody tried to take the wind out of their sales. Some did that to Mamdani as I recall.
Here's a novel idea. How bout letting voters decide for THEMSELVES.

(18,096 posts)I dont think well have fair elections here in the foreseeable future. Abbott is already trying to take over Harris County, which Houston is the county seat.
Abbott just gave the Feds are voter rolls, so .. They are up to something!

(1,879 posts)I like both Crockett and Gavin Newsom. (Voting for Talarico in the primary, but will gladly donate to Jasmine if she's the candidate after March.) As far as 2028 goes, I see Gavin standing up. I see a short list of people doing that: AOC, Bernie (who likely won't run), Crockett, Elizabeth Warren. Everyone who I see taking decisive action has some reason or another why they are unelectable according to the new thinking. Too Californian. Too female. Not white. Oops, they're Jewish. Smartest candidate we've got. Too bad he's gay.
One of these candidates is going to be our 2028 candidate. The voters are going to decide. I am not prepared to let the republicans choose both my candidate and theirs, so I am not willing to settle for a white male christian straight middle of the country choice because honestly? None of those choices impress me at this point. I think our voters will come out for a candidate who leads. They did for Obama. That candidate might be female. They might be a POC. They might be gay. They might be Californian. We don't know yet. It's still early days. We need to see who is going to step up and lead in this terrible moment.
What annoys me is democrats taking down our own best people. We are at a terrible place in history. Why aren't Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers using that energy to go after republicans? Why are they trying to tear down our candidates? Unnecessary. I don't want to hear from them who they think has no chance, who they think should be anointed. Let the voters decide. If they want to use their platform to tear people down, try going after the other side.
