Trump Went on Profanity-Laced Rant at Susan Collins in Angry Phone Call: Report
President Donald Trump phoned Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) and laid into the senator for voting in favor of a war powers measure this week after the U.S. invaded Venezuela on Saturday and abducted President Nicolas Maduro.
On Thursday, five Republicans joined all 47 Democratic senators in voting to advance legislation that would require the president to obtain congressional approval before taking further military action against the South American country. Sens. Lisa Murkowski, Rand Paul, Josh Hawley, and Todd Young were the other Republicans who backed the measure.
The Hill reported on Friday that Collins was on the business end of a tense phone call in which Trump shredded her over her vote.
He called her and then basically read her the riot act, one Republican senator anonymously told The Hill, saying the president went on a profanity-laced rant.

With Trumps disapproval rating, my guess is they increase their chance of getting elected by standing up to Trump. (not that I'm a fan of Ms. Collins)

(10,900 posts)it will not affect their foreign policy, The War Act needing congressional approval isn't really a thing. They will do whatever the hell they want.
Yup congress, you're a little late to have a measly few of you step forward and try assert your constitutional powers. He shredded that document while you were behind him kissing his ass. Oh and Susan, I hope it was real painful for you to be disrespected by a buffoon, When we needed you to make him stop disrespecting all of us, your concern did little.

All I can ever think about with him is his running on January 6 and the hilarious videos and memes.
And Todd Young! He stood up to DT about redistricting but now he's really getting a little backbone going. Shocking, really.

(759 posts)A man who would call someone he knows with a profanity-laced rant is one lacking character. He doesnt have self-control, and relying on profanities likely betraya an attempt to bully using mean words rather than cogent arguments. He is insecure, dim, and cares about only a few.
He has a history approaching conflict this way and hs experience success.
He considers hes won if you volley the argument back, and it you cry, that is the cherry on the too.
Hes an asshole!
You didnt need this to know hes an asshole and that is way too mild.

Trump suffers rare back-to-back defeats in Republican-led Congress.

The measure now heads to the Senate, where a separate set of negotiations is underway for a possible compromise.
Speaking of the upper chamber, Trumps other, more dramatic setback happened in the Senate on Thursday afternoon. My MS NOW colleague Mychael Schnell reported:
In a rare bipartisan rebuke of President Donald Trump on Thursday, the Senate narrowly advanced a war powers resolution aimed at reining in U.S. military actions in Venezuela an early sign that Trump may not have the congressional backing he anticipated for an extended military presence there.
In a 52-47 vote, senators agreed to begin debate on a war powers resolution from Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., that, if successful, would direct the removal of United States Armed Forces from hostilities within or against Venezuela that have not been authorized by Congress.
As the dust settled, many observers were surprised to see that five Senate Republicans had voted with the Democratic minority on the bipartisan legislation......
I think thats the right way to see the developments. The point isnt that the unpopular and failing president is suddenly powerless. Hes not, as evidenced by Thursdays failed House votes on overriding his recent vetoes.
Rather, the point is that his grip is slipping in ways he isnt accustomed to and clearly does not like. This was evident in the fall, when Republicans rejected some of Trumps ridiculous nominees and voted to rebuke his trade agenda, and it was even more obvious this week.
As this years midterm elections approach and GOP members look for ways to salvage their careers, this dynamic seems likely to get worse for the White House before it gets better.
