Five years ago today, on January 6, 2021, a violent mob stormed the Capitol building. Following the attack, over a hundred major companies released statements condemning the insurrection and promising to stop donating to the 147 members of Congress who voted to overturn the 2020 election, or to halt all political donations entirely.
-snip-
Nevertheless, most companies that pledged to stop donating to these lawmakers have broken their promise.

While many companies have broken the pledges they made after January 6, 2021, some companies have kept their promises. Popular Information identified 10 companies that have upheld their promise to stop donating to members of Congress who voted to overturn the 2020 election.
-snip-
The 10 who kept their pri0omise:
Farmers Insurance
Airbnb
Expedia Group
Nike
Clorox
Eversource Energy
Holland & Hart LLP
Qurate Retail (since rebranded as QVC Group)
Lyft
Whirlpool
LakeVermilion
(1,501 posts)I think they are a subgroup within Whirlpool.

Uber seemed (and still seems) to be the epitome of Tech Bro corruption.

(29,496 posts)I think I also read that Uber donated to Trump's inaugural fund and Lyft didn't.
Airbnb skirts so many laws and has contributed so heavily to the housing crisis that it's a no-brainer to boycott them. I consistently beg my friends not to use them, but to no avail.
Nike has that pesky sweatshop issue, and Phil Knight contributes to the Republicans.
I have boycotted Nike to the extent possible for years, but gig economy has done real harm and I avoid it as much as I can. I will always take an actual cab if it's available though occasionally I will take a Lyft in extenuating circumstances.

(28,617 posts)went to a drs apoint ment. uber declaired that ubeer didnt exist in my county. my insurance had made this ride and over 1000 people got stranded that day. i had to wait 3 hours for a cab to go 1 mile. so, nope to either of them

(29,496 posts)Problem is that there aren't enough of them. I was recently in Montreal though and cabs were plentiful and reasonably priced. It was so nice!
(They were also friendly, they all say BONJOUR on the side!)

(3,835 posts)Nike...child labor issues aplenty
Lyft...scab cabs
Air bnb ...a major contributor to the affordable housing crisis
But they are on the correct side of this issue.

(14,724 posts)I cant speak to the others, but im not on board with Nike
The Nike pac may be holding this line.
But the Nike owner is donating more money to Oregon republicans than any other individual, and donates significant sums to the national republican committees to spend on whoever they see fit.
As far as i can tell, Knight spends upwards of 10 times as much money in his efforts to support election deniers as the nike pac spends in total total.

Thanks! Useful (if disappointing) information to have. It helps when its time to make decisions and actions.

(14,724 posts)Unfortunately Knight is in the news reasonably often here in the PNW, usually because he has made another "record" donation to the Oregon Republican hope du jour. He seems intent on personally fully funding Oregon republicans as a vanity project.

(1,569 posts)And the merger of Corporations and Government is called FASCISM.......
The Republicans have the best politicians that corporations can buy. If you stop and look, it is blatantly obvious......
AND 2010's "Citizen's United" was the Corporation's Coup De Gras......
The Corporations have successfully bought the Republican Senators, the Republican House Members, and the Republican U.S. Supreme Governors, as well as a lot of the down ballot Republicans, along with State Governors......
Some Frenchman? in the 1700's, as we were forming our nation as a Democracy is reported to have said;
" A democracy will work until some "individuals" or "groups of individuals" figure out that they can vote themselves money"

(5,044 posts)Growing up in Amarillo Texas a half century ago we were told in school that this danger to democracy was from the working class voting ourselves more benefits like Social Security and Medicare than the economy could sustain.
Now that it is so completely obvious that the danger is from the 1% if schadenfreude were pennies, I would be in the 1%.

(1,569 posts)my favorite quote is:
"They" were all walking down the Jungle path, swatting at mosquitoes, oblivious to the herd of charging elephants" pun intended!
That's the story of the last 45+ years. The perfect title for a book about the last 45+ years would be:
WHILE THE NATION SLEPT
