I want to know why we don't have more than ONE damn news story every GD da

Every GD station running one story wit the same GD commentar over and over! There are tons of things happening in the world but oh no we got one story drilled and yanked to death...meaning whatever Trump does usually. There are people making history, discoveries being made, other joy or tragedies unfolding but NO we gotta loop continuously on one GD story, kinda like the media has attention re-deficit disorder... can't think , show, present beyond the "big" story for a whole GD day or sometimes a whole GD week. Are they stupid or just lazy? Could be both.

They usually rotate between three or four stories. Most 'news' organizations only have a handful of correspondents on staff anymore, so one has to be in the right place at the right time or there's no reporting.

I've had a number of friends ask similar things in the past. I tell them that I wonder why every single time I go to McDonalds, they are peddling burgers and fries.

There are options, including as our friend noted above (watching foreign news). And there are lots of good podcasts.

My wife has never tolerated television news.

Our television plays DVDs and two or three no-advertising streaming services. That's all it does. We don't have cable, satellite, or broadcast television.

We subscribe to a few newspapers. I don't feel uninformed.

The rules at LBN prevent one story from dominating the forum

It's a relief to hear that there is a world outside of this insanity.

They also do stories that are way more in depth and their anchors are smart AF. One of the best takedowns I ever saw was Peter Mansbridge correcting Ann Coulter over and over that Canada was not in the Vietnam War (she kept insisting). She was trying to chastise Canada for not joining in the attack on Iraq and wondered why we would go to Vietnam and not Iraq. It was a beautiful sight to behold.

Next thing I'm watching a story on icebreakers.

How completely different and peaceful.

When I am up in the San Juan Islands or the Northern Great Lakes, I listen to CBC radio. I can't recommend it highly enough.

It's a world where quantity means everything and quality means nothing.
Wish I could solve it.

And bought. And it’s why trump can get away with so much. The Maduro story completely eclipses Epstein.

I have a Facebook Account.

In my feed, I get information pertaining to all my interests like photography, watercoloring, cycling, as well as news. I “follow” pages, and “join” groups that meet my information needs. I subscribe to AP, Reuters, Heather Cox Richardson, Jeff Tiedrich, Midas Touch, Raw Story, etc. Yes, I also see pages like Huffington Post and NY Times, and The Hill. They mostly get me angry, but it’s good to catch information I might have missed otherwise. I review them with a skeptical eye. Also, I sometimes see stories from Science and Medicine based entities. Those appear, I think, based on algorithms. If I don’t like the content, I simply select the option to not see anything from the source again. Does my feed get filled with crap sometimes? Yes, but, I’ve learned how to modify settings and make FB work for me.

I seek out my news as opposed to passively expecting one entity to deliver it to me. I’m 71 and remember the days when there was only one network (CBS) we got on the TV at home, growing up. Walter Kronkite was a respected anchor. Things have changed. We don’t have cable anymore, so I can’t rely on the legacy media to get my news. I think that’s turned out to be a good thing for me.

everyday. On Mondays I did 3 days worth almost, the most of the Sunday Times was preprint and available on Thursdays.

The same story would get covered and headlined 7 different ways -- NY Daily News, Newsday, NY Post, WSJ, WaPo, NY Times, Financial Times, Village Voice and The New York Observer.

What I learned was that the "why" changes. The "what happened" overlaps and gets confirmed by the multiple sources. A big part of slant is what gets left out. It is a bit like kids fighting -- "He hit me!" True but also true is "But he hit me first!" I got a good understanding of the filters that each source was applying only by looking at the same story through other filters. I got all the pieces that were left out by one source by looking at the opposing sources. I still do this.

It is not surprising that Trump makes every news cycle about him. He's a master troll. What has surprised me is how few people want to get beyond that. It doesn't advance one's understanding of what happened or why to make everything about Trump. What happened to "Don't feed the trolls"?

At some point around 2015 cable news became like a fire department that screams endlessly every day about how bad and damaging fire is but they never put water on the fire.
