https://www.theatlantic.com/national-security/2026/01/trump-venezuela-maduro-delcy-rodriguez/685497/During our call, Trump, who had just arrived at his golf club in West Palm Beach, was in evident good spirits, and reaffirmed to me that Venezuela may not be the last country subject to American intervention. We do need Greenland, absolutely, he said, describing the islanda part of Denmark, a NATO allyas surrounded by Russian and Chinese ships. And in discussing Venezuelas future, he signaled a clear shift away from his previous distaste for regime change and nation building, rejecting the concerns of many in his MAGA base. You know, rebuilding there and regime change, anything you want to call it, is better than what you have right now. Cant get any worse, he said.
-snip-
I asked him whether the attack on Venezuela could indicate a willingness to take military action to seize control of Greenland, an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, which has rejected American territorial claims. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said yesterday that the world should take notice after the Venezuela operation. When he tells you that hes going to do something, when he tells you hes going to address a problem, he means it, Rubio said. Trump has repeatedly said that the U.S. needs to control Greenland.
Trump said it was up to others to decide what U.S.-military action in Venezuela means for Greenland. They are going to have to view it themselves. I really dont know. He was very generous to me, Marco, yesterday, Trump said. You know, I wasnt referring to Greenland at that time. But we do need Greenland, absolutely. We need it for defense.

(6,163 posts)now megalomania is setting in.
The United States is turning into a rogue state with no respect or adherence to the laws and norms of civilization, both internal and international.
It is no damned wonder Trump et al cozy up to despots like Putin and Kim Jung Un, they are at heart the same.

(105,574 posts)If he thinks she's guilty of committing worse crimes against US law, he shouldn't be saying it's OK for her to take over; by judging her on the nebulous (but not criminal-law-related) "what's right", he's admitting he's behaving like an emperor wanting to control a vassal.

(65,120 posts)The orange asshole likes to talk big about his cronies running the country.
But heres the thing, the simple thing: whomever he chooses to run that country has to get there first and given the circumstances, I zero doubt they will be met with a carpet of roses.
All of this is about to go south really fast

(2,133 posts)What is the proof of continued criminality by the V.P.? Because somebody in a sovereign Country doesn't listen to you or does what you order is not a crime.
But overthrowing a Gov't. is.
