LIMA, Dec 29 (Reuters) - Shamans in Peru gathered for an annual New Year's ritual on Monday where they made predictions for the year to come, including illness for U.S. President Donald Trump and the downfall of Venezuelan counterpart Nicolas Maduro.
"The United States should prepare itself because Donald Trump will fall seriously ill," Juan de Dios Garcia proclaimed as he gathered with other shamans on a beach in southern Lima, wearing colorful ponchos and sprinkling flowers on the sand.
The shamans also foretold the end of Russia's war in Ukraine. "I see that the conflict will end, they will raise the flag of peace," Garcia predicted.
The ceremony is performed every year in late December. The shamans had previously predicted an end to the Ukraine war - in 2023.

(51,738 posts)You mean, stock up on celebratory liquor now before Trump's tariffs end up in alcohol shortages?

(17,680 posts)It's funny sometimes to see what other countries think of us. More traditional societies look at their leaders as like the head of the family. I think these people are under the impression that we view Trump the same way that they see their primary leader, and the nation would be heartsick if Trump were suddenly stricken with a disease and died. I wonder how they would feel if they knew how much he was hated here. He's probably more hated here than he is there.

(20,233 posts)As seriously as you do in the US. It's said that one advantage of preferential (ranked choice) voting is we usually elect the least hated as opposed to the most popular.

(17,680 posts)I want someone who is competent, but preferably quiet. It would be refreshing to have someone who doesn't feel the need to post their every thought online or make themselves the center of attention all the time. I remember how badly I wanted Jerry Brown to be President back in 1992. Somebody like that would be great for that job.

(17,680 posts)It's a mess, and I seriously doubt it will ever be cleaned up. Our courts are letting people carry around guns wherever they like and people shrug their shoulders while we have another mass shooting. The income gap is widening all the time and we have all these desperate people carrying guns. It's like they're trying to sabotage this country. It's exhausting.
A friend of mine suggested that I watch Yellowstone, and it has given me a lot to think about as far as what kind of country we have and what kind we want. Some people just want this country to be a social Darwinist hellhole.

(17,680 posts)and I can say yes, yes, he is dead. I'm sure Vance will be awful as well, but I think he will be different and easier to overcome. Vance is casting his lot in with the Christian Nationalists, and this country is getting less and less religious all the time. I hope he keeps courting those assholes. We'll trounce him in 2028.
