I fervently hope that if Nick Reiner is indicted and goes to trial, he isn't acquitted on the defense of either insanity or incapacitation. If he is found guilty, then he will be held accountable for his actions.

2. Drug addiction cannot be used as a basis for an insanity plea.

In most jurisdictions in the United States, drug addiction itself generally cannot be used as a basis for a "not guilty by reason of insanity" (NGI) defense. The law typically distinguishes between a mental disease or defect that negates criminal responsibility and a mental state resulting from voluntary substance use.

Reports are that he slit his parents' throats.

There was a loud argument then night before at a party between the three of them.
Sister told the police to look for her violent brother as a suspect in the murders.

Sounds like this guy was a sociopath, not just a drug addict.

This was cold blooded pre-meditated murder.

Following a loud argument at a friend's Xmas party the night before.

The daughter also identified her brother as dangerous and violent,
and the police should look for him as a suspect.

This is showing pre-meditation which also precludes a NGI defense.
And a cool deliberate murder. Not just random stabbings.

9. Yes the family apparently knew he was a violent drug addict.

At least the sister knew.
The parents may have been in denial about the danger they were in.

We don't have to say "alleged"; we can flat out say "their son did it" if we want.

We are in the court of public opinion and can add two and two and get four.
And say so.

I had a wonderful and sweet and the most kind nephew. He never hurt anyone. Was so so loving.

He began smoking our highly potent LEGAL cannabis and this triggered psychosis. He became so scary and irrational. He never came back from it. Eventually he was diagnosed schizophrenic.

In the end he took his own life. I also know another TWO young men in their 20’s who became psychotic and later diagnosed with “drug induced schizophrenia”. Neither has come out of it since it began. One of them tries to self medicate with anything he can to make himself feel better. The other is on the 5th or 6th antipsychotic medication as none has worked so far.

I don’t believe we can judge that a person “willingly” does drugs. This can happen to anyone and it sadly happened to a public persona and his wife. This is tragic and I hope a thorough investigation is conducted by this young man’s defense team to bring to light this issue.

Look up: “cannabis induced psychosis”

Don’t know if this played a part. But if it did I hope the message gets out there. This is a thing!

Rest in peace Rob and his wife. Very sad indeed.
