Dear Hope Walz, the hate mail just means your message was spot on and effective

Thank you for that excellent video message, but please do take the time you need to enjoy your Christmas undisturbed by the sad sad cult. We are sorry that they are doing that to your family.

We sure can tell you have your priorities in order, and that you must have been raised by good parents. Which we kind of guessed already. The very idea that families find joy in each other is probably quite a revelation in many households, but you are right.

I’m sure your dad has told you that the US wasn’t always so full of this kind of hate..hopefully it will find its way again into supporting democracy, including healthy discussions of issues instead of personal attacks. We aren’t there yet, but with young people like you, I have hope.

So while you are retreating from social media, maybe open up an anonymous account at DU and find online friends here. We’d be glad to have you.
