Key Villain Roles:
Columbo ("Negative Reaction," 1974): He played a manipulative photographer who murders his wife, a role so against type that audiences were shocked, with some even confronting him in public.
Matlock (1986): Van Dyke portrayed a judge who was secretly a cold-blooded killer, a character he enjoyed playing because it was so genuinely bad.

His character was affable but stuck in his ways. He wasn't willing to learn new medical techniques and risked his patients' health with his stubbornness.

The Dick Van Dyke Show will forever remain one of my top 3 favorite sitcoms of all time. It was wit personified. Glad he made this monumental milestone.
