The Florida Department of Health on Wednesday took a step toward eliminating four childhood vaccine mandates a move the department can take without the Legislatures sign-off or the governors signature.
The proposal, which was debated during a Friday workshop in Panama City Beach, is the first tangible step in Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapos plan to eliminate all vaccine mandates in Florida.
Florida statute requires vaccinations for diseases like polio, measles and tetanus. Changing those requirements takes the Legislatures action.
But the Department of Health has for years required four additional vaccines for school attendance: Varicella, or chickenpox; Hepatitis B; Haemophilus influenzae type b, or Hib; and Pneumococcal conjugate, or PCV15/20.

Getting reeeeaal tired of these anti-science zealots making public policies that affect the welfare of the state and country...

(5,042 posts)I've been boosted all along. I have Asperger's so social distancing is my superpower. I'm retired so I can easily go out only when and where I choose. I tracked my exposure time, my time in stores closely. I got covid from less than thirty minutes in Publix. Now I have long covid and I believe that it will cut a decade off my life. Previously I could walk a couple of miles, at least, with absolutely no problem. Now I struggle to walk 500 feet without stopping and a simple shopping trip to the grocery store exhausts me for the rest of the day.
And almost certainly the reason that I got covid was because people here in SW Florida have not taken the pandemic seriously. I don't mean the ultrawealthy, they got their shots even before they were generally available to the public. But the majority, the dupes and toadies, they are as unvaxxed and infectious as a rat in 13th century Europe.
There will be deaths from this policy of science denial. And, in a state with a higher than average number of elderly, many of those deaths will be people who did follow the science, who tried their best not to be part of the problem.
Thoughts and Prayers.
