A New Hampshire real estate attorney and American citizen returning home from Canada says he was detained at the border without an explanation.
Bachir Atallah and his wife, Jessica Fakhri, were traveling back from a quick family trip Sunday when they say U.S. Customs and Border Protection stopped them when reentering the country in Vermont.
"I literally drove my car to Canada for the weekend, and on the way back, I was treated like a criminal," said Atallah, who has been a U.S. citizen for 10 years.
An official for U.S. Customs and Border Patrol on Tuesday called Atallah's account "blatantly false and sensationalized." Read the full statement below.

(3,029 posts)detained many times going into Canada getting grilled by Immigration and Customs officials, but never coming back home. Once was for like 4 hours. It happens almost every time I fly there on business and they tear into my luggage and scatter it all over, treat me like I'm an animal or something. Very rarely do I get through without getting pulled into a separate room and questioned at length, and they are very unpleasant about it. If you dare to question even why they are pulling you aside, they get really aggressive too. The only place I've been that is worse is Australia, but I was only there once so I don't know if that is normal. I just don't have issues going anywhere else.
I'd like to know more about what's going on with this case though. We quite often find out that the stories are highly exaggerated and occasionally completely false. If it's true, we should find out the who and why so it can be corrected.

(48,672 posts)HOW could you be a functioning adult that lived through Trumps first term and then four years of Biden and think anything Trump would do in a second term would be better? Especially if you have a name that makes you more likely to be a target?
"I really thought things would change after this administration, when we have Mr. Trump in office, things would change to the better," Atallah said. "Things actually changed to the worse."
