There are quite a few differences, actually. But people like to pretend that what's happening here is exotic and foreign and inherent in other cultures -- particularly eastern ones -- but not ours.

in the same god of Abraham, but with a few different technicalities. I am now an atheist. When the taliban first became newsworthy, I said to my immediate family, the evangelical christians are the same as the taliban. In 50 years or less, they will be exactly the same. I'll be gone, but my grandchildren will have to put up with their bs, if the evangelical/taliban are in complete power, which is the 2025 playbook.

I’d add to the commonalities list….
“Absolutely convinced that THEY AND THEY ALONE have favor in G*D, and everyone else is a (sinner, infidel, damned, unclean etc etc) who must be punished NOW and later…”

“Cherry picks religious texts for weapons to use against their enemies, while IGNORING anything within said texts that makes THEM look bad”
