?si=tJJWtI5Lq0dFzpOKEurope tried to build their own army outside of NATO-influence. The Clinton administration put a stop to that.
The US is the only multi-purpose army in NATO. All other european countries were urged by the US to specialize their armies and to forego things like proper logistics and a proper mix of martial options for all scenarios. For the sake of cost-savings and efficiency, because Europe's national armies don't all need to be capable of everything, because the US will always be ready to help out....
And now, Trump has badgered Europe into spending more money on their armies. And the EU has obliged: In early April 2025, the EU has greenlit $150 in arms-deals......... with the caveat that the money be spent on military-manufacturers in Europe.
Lil' Marco immediately protested that this discrimination against the US military-industrial complex is outrageous.
So, why is the US interested in Europe having multiple small inefficient armies that buy US weapons yet depend on the goodwill of the US military infrastructure to properly use them?

Mind you, Ive had issues with the MIC going way back, but I never advocated for its complete demise. Its the unbridled power and outsized influence that bother me. Frankly, Im surprised the major players havent been more outspoken.

(79,734 posts)Yes the MIC is a greedy and corrupt entity.
Forcing the American taxpayer to fund out of control projects and obsolete weapons.
It should be clipped but not destroyed.
Of course, all of it has Putin's fingerprints on it.

In these paranoiac times, is it wrong to ponder why power brokers surrounding the MIC havent been running around with their hair on fire? It makes me wonder why theres complacency in the face of financial withering on the vine. If theres a big fix, and if its in, its beyond the scope of this forum and belongs rightfully in fiction or speculative politics.

The world is not interested in buying weapons/aircraft controlled by the US military who could
cut off aircraft or weapon capability in mid air.
Perhaps the MIC knows that US taxpayer dollars will always be funneled to them.
No questions asked.
Or perhaps Putin has bought off the US MIC like he has bought off everyone else?
BTW asking good questions and speculating based on data and observations are the basis of science.
It is not fiction and it is not conspiracy to ask questions and speculate.
