It has been mentioned that he could hook onto JD vance, presumably elected by gawd knows who, who would then hand the reigns back to trump. But they are working on this now, and they seem to be intending to use interpretation of term limits, what that means, etc. This would point to a SC fight.
So, I'm thinking that the vance gambit is weak and may not work, because why would jd vance give up a presidency? I think that's what they think, and what's left? The RW SC, who seem to think that they are there to support trump's private ambition.
But, it seems to me that this SC fight will have to happen BEFORE the 2028 election, or very close to it, because he will have to refuse to leave, based on his "third term" crap. So, what do we have here? A delayed election, while the SC resolves this made up issue? Or, then an election with vance running, or someone else who looks good and will definitely give up the office to trump, because they have something on the guy (like they almost had with Adams?)
Because you have to campaign a year before the election, how is he going to do this? Run under the umbrella of the actual pres candidate, do the tour, then just before the election declare that he won't leave? And then, it gets referred to the SC for them to resolve the issue?
Because, you know that he couldn't win another election, even if they resolved that he could run again. There are going to be too many bankrupted, pissed off voters. All the voting obstacles will not stop us. So, he's either going to have to have the SC state that he gets to stay in, and thus not even have to run, or run again for a third term, or get in under an umbrella.
They are working on this now. We need to have the Dems resolve their personal issues, start deciding our candidate, and start campaigning NOW.
There are lots of Dems that would be just fine as President. There are some issues, such as female, Black or gay, but after this second trump term, that's going to be less problematical. Not entirely erased, just less of a deal breaker.
I like Bernie, Kamala, and Secretary Pete. I also like Swalwell, Cory Booker, Wals, and Mark Kelly. And, I still like Clinton. Whoever is picked should be able to last cognitively for 8 years, although this will not be long enough to fix the damage.
Pete is very, very savvy politically. I'd vote for him in a heartbeat. He has the right attitude. Yes, he's gay. Get over it. He'd also make a fine VP.
I want someone who's mentally and emotionally tough. I want someone unafraid. Please name some of your favorite candidates and state why you like them. I don't want to overlook anyone.
Some experts are saying that candidates almost always come from a Governor position. But, Clinton would have been experienced and just fine. Kamala was the previous VP. So, I don't think that assumption holds up.
I want Pete. I won't get what I want, but he's the one I think can multitask, understand problems, and is tough enough to prevail. He's also the guy who can start healing our broken relationships with the rest of the countries.
He'd also be a great VP. Who would you pair him with?

(8,103 posts)That's a problem with the Dems. They are slow. They are shell shocked. It's not their fault, but when the opposition thugs are already planning for a third term, we have to get up to speed to defeat them. We can't wait.

(3,343 posts)The states have sole control over conducting elections.
States would refuse to put Trump on their respective primary ballots, citing the 22nd Amendment.
If Republicans somehow nominated Trump, or if Trump were to run as an independent, the states would again refuse to put Trump on their respective general election ballots.
Not saying Trump and Republicans wouldnt try something, of course.
