So, 145% tariff on components used to manufacture laptops in U.S., but tariff free for laptops made entirely in China

Mark Gurman @markgurman
BREAKING: President Donald Trump’s administration exempted smartphones, computers and other electronics from its so-called reciprocal tariffs in win for Apple (and shoppers). This lowers the China tariff from 125%.

Spencer Hakimian @SpencerHakimian
So let’s just get this crystal clear.

If somebody is trying to manufacture a laptop in the U.S., the components that they import are going to be tariffed at 145%.

But if somebody simply makes the laptop entirely in China, they are fully tariff free?

And this is all to bring manufacturing back to the U.S.?

It's because they know it would be impossible or take decades to implement. In the meantime, they have to answer to their shareholders.

but their major source of revenue is from the iPhone.

On edit: also my MacBook Pro, in very small print hard to read, says "assembled in China".
