The Social Security Administration (SSA) unveiled Thursday that it would use the social platform X to make announcements going forward, instead of traditional press releases or memos typically posted to the agencys website.
The agency will be using X to communicate to the press and the public formerly known as Twitter, Linda Kerr-Davis, SSA Midwest-West regional commissioner told employees in a call Thursday, according to Federal News Network (FNN).

I know this probably sounds very foreign to you it did to me as well and not what we are used to, but we are in different times now, she added.
The SSAs last press release, which was posted March 27 on the website, denied reports that local field offices may be closing. It also features a link to an inactive social media account for the agency that encouraged website viewers to follow the press office on X, which is owned by close Trump adviser and donor Elon Musk.
(Last I checked, X costs $32/ yr to join. And that goes to help Musk support his 14 kids.)

(6,168 posts)it's not true. I absolutely refuse to sign up with X for anything. Was hoping anyone here could show me that I'm incorrect.
If the gov't starts funneling all the agency public info thru X, it means many people won't be able to stay up-to-date with what's going on.

(12,412 posts)nowadays, below is what Huff Post is saying now.
The second link below, is what apears to be the "Social Security" X page, but I'm not sure it's real either.
In any event, I'd bet money they aren't going to rely solely on X, although I'm sure Musk would love that.
"The agency batted down a Wired report that it was moving all of its communications to X ... with a post on X.
"We are no longer planning to issue press releases or those dear colleague letters to inform the media and public about programmatic and service changes, an SSA regional commissioner announced during an internal meeting this week, according to Wireds sources.
"Social Security spokespeople did not immediately respond to a request for comment from HuffPost. Hours later, the agency responded to the Wired report with a post on X: This is false. Social Security will continue to communicate through any and all mediums."

As of Friday night, it still had not posted anything new on its press release site.

(9,281 posts)fo whatever reasons, and enough of those are on Social Security themselves, and enough of them are kind and considerate, that I would expect anything they dump out will get posted here. There is already a forum for :Social Security and Medicare" using that forum would enable us to find such "news" quickly

Just like April 5th, anyone can host a protest.
I haven't posted mine on the site yet, because I am ironing out the details, such as time.
I am going to make a sign that shows my support for Social Security employees. Also trying to word one that objects to X taking over communications at SSA. So many facets that elicit ideas for signs.
