Nearly 300 passengers stuck on planes overnight

Hundreds of passengers on two Delta flights from Mexico were forced to spend the night inside planes on the tarmac of the Montgomery, Alabama, airport after being diverted due to severe weather while no customs staff were available to let them inside the airport. NBC News’ Aaron Gilchrist shares how what was supposed to be a four-hour journey turned into an all-night hassle.

We have committed crimes. Most Americans are honest and ethical. They don’t cheat on their Social Security. If they do, they should get charged, but don’t punish a whole class of basically honest people because some people have gotten away with cheating. what they are doing is so fucking un-American. It’s hard to believe, that’s why they get away with it.

They believe if we were given a position of responsibility and power, we would abuse it also.

Many countries’ citizens are selecting other destinations for vacation. Tourism industry is not going to be good in the US.

it sounds like "...no customs staff were available to let them inside the airport." is something which genuinely could be shown to be because of Trump's policies. If it is that straightforward Democratic politicians should make sure that it really hits the fan.

… you don’t go through customs straight off the plane. They could have been corralled inside, at the gate, with pillows and food. And toilets.

I was saying that very likely the staff shortage that caused the problem in the first place might have been caused by Trump's cutting staff.

Also, isn't there some regulation about passengers not spending more than four hours on a plane on the tarmac? If Pete Buttigieg was still in charge I think that the media would be grilling him.

Only some airports have the ability to accept international flights, so there wouldn't be Customs or Immigration at a regional airport like this.
