https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/apr/09/anti-protest-bills-trumpOlder forum members may recall that yesterday I posted a brief essay on Saturday's rallies. It was titled A Reminder, and although yesterday was seemingly a long time ago, it still exists. But I'd like to update a few things.
I mentioned a good friend who loves to argue. On Sunday he was telling me that no rally or march accomplishes anything. He was making fun of me for standing out in the cold rain for two hours. He had asked me why I would do anything that stupid? I said I did it for his family.
My west coast brother sent me the article linked above. I sent the link to my friend, and many, many more people. My friend wrote back, Okay, this shows I was wrong when I said rallies do no good. They wouldn't be trying to outlaw them otherwise.
On the thread of yesterday's OP, my good friend moniss noted that there is a need for civil disobedience. I expressed my opinion that as we continue on this path, non-violent civil disobedience will come round. It appears that it might sooner than I anticipated.
This country needs a citizen-lead movement. Our political system has been corrupted, and we need to draw the line on the denial of Amendment 1 rights. We have the models of Martin Luther King, Jr., Cesar Chavez, and Dolores Hueta. And as we go forward, there will be grassroots collective leadership rising up across the country. And this will strengthen the leadership we are seeing from some in the House and Senate.

We need to keep in mind that when we were in junior high school, we would not have taken any shit from a classmate like Stephen Miller. We'd have made him cry, mess his trousers, or both. And he has the felon's ear, despite not getting a lot of attention. Here's a recent article:
https://www.yahoo.com/news/flustered-stephen-miller-yells-over-000751898.html?fr=sycsrp_catchall
And if I am wrong -- I often am -- and anyone here was bullied by a Stephen Miller, now is the time to get back at him and the rest of these terrible human beings.

(100,132 posts)Here we are, on the eve of destruction, sitting around our metaphorical campfire sharing the news. Serious question what if critical communications get fratzed accidentally on purpose?
I am counting on rallies continuing. I dug out about 10 political t-shirts from the past quarter-century or more and a couple of long sleeved Hang10 sun/swim shirts and a big gardening hat. Mr Sun is not a friend to my Irish skin. I bought a couple more Hang10 shirts in different colors at Costco to wear under the political shirts.
More signs needed. So far all I have is the one I made for last weekend:
HEY-HEY, BOBK! HOW MANY KIDS WILL YOU KILL TODAY?
and the one I made the first time trump got in:
I CANT BELIEVE I STILL HAVE TO PROTEST THIS SH*T
Now Im going to go find your prior post.
Take care

Sign better today too. It was an OK sign, and it served its purpose on Saturday, but I have been protesting for decades. I learned that protesting becomes a way of life for a while or at least until you achieve your goal.
The good news is that protesting is a lot of fun. It becomes like a social event and you see all your other compadres. And needless to say cleverness is on display with the signs.

and there were a lot of associated activities. I was invited to join local Vets for Peace, so this lifelong civilian has several of those t-shirts. I want to make a sign indicating that we promised wed take care of our vets for having put their brave young lives on the line, and how disgusted I am at TrumpMusk for breaking those promises. Has to be somewhat short and snappy.
See you on the hustings, NJCher.

(78,610 posts)Between the signs I saw in person Saturday, and those I've seen on the internet since, I think they are one of the most important things. I'm going to get together with friends to make more. I admire all of the humor that I've seen -- and serious one, too -- but I keep in mind that the felon hates to be laughed at.

(78,610 posts)I think that you've raised a very important idea about critical communications. I think there is a very real chance of that happening, if even for "just" a matter of days. I need to think about that more -- including to some people who know about such things. And I'm sure there are community members who have insight and suggestions.
The cold and rain here on Saturday likely made it so political clothing was covered with coats. But I loved all the signs.

Great interview with AZ Attorney General Kris Mayes. One thing she talks about is the 3 C's. Crowds matter. A lot.

"Nonviolent protests are twice as likely to succeed as armed conflicts and those engaging a threshold of 3.5% of the population have never failed to bring about change."
