Another betrayal to the service and sacrifice made by the officers who defended the Capitol. Trump directs the justice department to reimburse Jan. 6 rioters for refunds of the restitution payments they made to cover damage to the Capitol.
He doesnt support the police he never has.

(71,097 posts)... some entity would have to ask for a TRO from a lower court with jurisdiction and go from there. SCOTUS rules against Mango Jebus a lot more than for.
If the POTUS has the ability to pardon, he has the ability to forgive and repay fines.
I don't think most of them have been particularly prompt on paying anything, anyways. This is small potatoes, more a quibble than an issue. Pisses me off, but it has no effect on the real world.
It'll take a Congress to better delineate the powers of a POTUS sometime in the future.

Mango Jebus only gets away with things no-one expected a President to try. It's time to fence him in.

(2,080 posts)Please tell me this isn't true. If it is, it's unbelievable. But then again, every single day brings something else unbelievable. You'd think I'd be immune to it by now. Is there no low this demented creature won't sink to? This is the one who people thought would be better on "law and order" than the prosecutor?
We are truly living in dark times. I can't believe there are people that are okay with any of this.

(2,688 posts)Its way, way past time for this to end. Remove him NOW. This is the at least fourth thing he has done in the past 90 days that any other POTUS would have been removed for. JFC, this type of nonsense was exactly why he couldn't be allowed to run again, let alone BE elected again.

Jan. 6 defendants whose convictions were wiped out by President Donald Trump are entitled to a refund of restitution payments they made to cover damage to the Capitol, the Justice Department said Tuesday.
The fact that many Jan. 6 rioters were identified, charged and convicted is well known. The fact that the president pardoned those who attacked the U.S. Capitol in his name is also well known. What much of the public might not know, however, is that Jan. 6 criminals also had to pay financial penalties as part of their prosecutions.
As a USA Today report explained, Most defendants convicted for the Capitol insurrection were required to pay restitution to the Architect of the Capitol, who maintains the building and grounds, to help cover the costs of repairing the estimated $3 million in damage. Those convicted of felonies typically paid $2,000 and those convicted of misdemeanors typically paid $500......
Five years later, however, the Trump administration apparently wants the money to start flowing in the opposite direction. From the Politico report:
The administration revealed its position in a filing to U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, who is weighing one defendants request to be repaid the $500 in restitution he sent to the Architect of the Capitol after his conviction on misdemeanor charges. The defendant, Stacy Hager, argued in February that he should be reimbursed now that his conviction has been erased as part of President Donald Trumps sweeping grant of clemency to more than 1,500 people charged in the attack.[/blockquote]
This week, Trumps Justice Department responded to Hagers argument and endorsed reimbursing her.
The pardons were unforgiveable and reimbursing these terrorists is just adding salt to the wound
