Somehow, I always miss these milestones, but this time I was paying attention!
There is no other online group or forum that I have been part of as long as Democratic Underground. Even Facebook and Twitter weren't publicly available back in 2004. And I'm still here!
Cheers everyone, thanks for all the years of insightful conversations and much needed camaraderie during these often harrowing times.

Ah no, actually I started in January of 2004, so I don't know what that makes me. Blizzard Baby???

(25,891 posts)I found DU late in 2004 but lurked for awhile before signing on and I'm so glad I did. Thanks for sharing this liberal community with us!
I found DU sometime before 2004, not sure when, but I didn't sign up until the beginning of 2004 when I wanted to answer someone's comment. At the time, I was rarely interactive online.
I ended up making a lot of friends over time, many that I am still in contact with. I can't believe it has been 21 years!

(1,709 posts)I, too, began visiting DU in 2004, but didnt join until 2008(?). Not nearly as active as you in commenting, but love this page and all who are a part of it! Thanks for making this place amazing! 🎉🎊
I feel like this group is rather unique. I haven't really found anything quite like it. A lot of great people here.

(32,276 posts)I informed EarlG that I had finally made it to 30,000 after all these years---gave him sincere thanks for my longstanding enjoyment of DU. Having a place like this is invaluable in these trying times.
Again, well done on your getting to 50,000. Hope I'm around to do the same in the future.

(52,153 posts)At the time I found DU, I was trying to find like-minded people who were as upset and frustrated as I was. For awhile I felt rather alone. It was so hard to find anyone who dared be critical of GW Bush, especially after 9/11.

(52,153 posts)And also a place to meet like-minded people. Most of us started with our outrage about the Bush administration. I don't think any of us could have anticipated that it would get worse, much worse, than Bush/Cheney. Good to know we're not alone.

We've been through some good times and some bad times. How many Presidents?
PatSeg
(52,153 posts)Yours has always been a familiar presence. There are so many that are gone now.
It has only been four presidents, though it feels like it must have been far more. Two very good ones and two absolute disasters.

(67,791 posts)This was a helluva time to stop drinking wine! I feel better physically but I'm more afraid of Trump this time. He is definitely loco.
PatSeg
(52,153 posts)He is totally unfettered now. The first term, he had some restraints on him; now he listens to no one aside from maybe Putin. What is the most disturbing is that no one in his party will stand up to him as if he is holding some loved one hostage.
