Richard Irvin (GOP) loses bid for third mayor's term in Aurora (Illinois)

Richard Irvin is the second term Republican incumbent mayor of Aurora, Illinois. He was running for a third term.

He is known statewide because he ran a fairly smart campaign for the Republican primary for governor in 2022. JB Pritzker at least raised an eyebrow at him, and played a little game where he promoted MAGA dumbfuck Darren Bailey, presumably the easier beat for him.

In any case, Irvin just conceded the race: https://www.cbsnews.com/chicago/news/aurora-illinois-mayor-richard-irvin-concedes-election-john-laesch/

This one was a street fight, but the Dem won. It's at the very least an interesting result.

Your local Republican pol might be a great guy, but electing him helps push the national agenda....which is counter to your local interests.

He was in some ways a plausible route forward for them north of Urbana.
