That triangulation strategy doesn't work - saying whatever it takes to get elected with the idea that once we get into office we will pivot to "our causes."

Gov. Newsome, who has now pivoted on several key issues critically important to the Democratic Party's voter base has ZERO chance of becoming our party's 2028 nominee... it's over for him before the primary race has even started!!

He also used to be a supporter, especially after seeing Newsome stand up to Trump during the LA fires. But now,

even if they disagree with them on a few certain issues.

Bernie is a prime example for me, even tho he has disappointed me once or twice, including his recent shift regarding U.S. border policy. (I do, however, hope he reconsiders his position on that issue.)

Besides, polls have consistently shown that a majority of Americans support progressive populism, so Gov. Newsome's shift to the right on certain issues makes no sense.

I understand less sanguine voters.

I never thought he would be the ideal candidate because of the baggage he has. I recognize that he has often taken very liberal positions, but his current actions confuse that.

The media is not a fair playing field as there are many totally MAGA outlets and few overtly liberal ones. Trump and others LABELED the mainstream media which attempts to be even handed as liberal. So, his podcast when he speaks to but only gently pushes back on Republican liars, is not just a waste, but to some may give the liars credibility.

I don't know who the best choices will be for 2028, but I don't see it as him. My choices would be a newer fresher face with far less baggage. There are several governors who meet that description.

Walz or Buttigieg are tops in my book right now, anyway.

Mayor Pete is genuine.

Tim Walz is genuine.

I trust Jasmine Crockett and AOC and Bernie and Elizabeth Warren to stick to their principles.

The trouble with Gavin is he's willing to trade in on his positions and slither around any which way that he thinks will win him votes. I don't trust him. I will not be voting for him. Period. He's not trustworthy.

We will not be picking up republican votes. We will not be picking up right leaning independent votes. We need to get real about this. Every election we waste so much energy trying to win MAGA votes as if we are going to change their minds. They show up for their candidates every dang time and they vote in big numbers. They are NOT GOING TO VOTE FOR DEMS. We need to get over this pipe dream. We need to focus on getting democrats enthused about our candidates and showing up to the polls for us. That's not going to happen by platforming right wingers and being Republican-lite like Gavin is trying to do.

but if he somehow wins the nomination it will help him in the GE. If he can convince the party his strategy can help him win then it might help in the primary also.

Bill Clinton, Obama and Biden all understood how much cultural issues influence how people vote. We would like to believe it's about policy matters on issues like the economy and health care but for a large part of the country the b8g outrage is things like the snow white movie and tv ads .

Unrelated to this topic, today I listened to a YouTube video with Bill Burr on one of the late-night shows. He said that what fRump and his close followers hate more than anything is to be laughed at.

Bells went off in my head - yeah, right! Rather than attempt to engage in any sort of rational discussion with those on the right, why not just laugh at them! If one attempts a discussion with them, you then get the MTG types calling us Commies or Socialists or Marxists (as though she could elucidate on this). To me, the psychology of this is great - laughing at their idiocy in a way forces them to respond in a somewhat different manner, it puts them in a defensive rather than attack mode.

democracy, and which ones are not serious about it, don't care, or want something different. So we need to shake the Democratic party a bit, and find out who is self absorbed, interested in their own political advancement and using us to get there,, and those who are committed to the United States of America and its constitution and its values. We've lost a few along the way, but we've gained some support moving forward. Traditional political labels may not mean the same thing down the road, I think the meanings have already changed.

The things politicians once had to do in order to get attention and be considered a leader do not work any more. The greatest threat to the United States of America is its own President. Either you defend America against that, or you are subverting it and helping him get what he wants.
