Just for personal context, I've given up idle phone scrolling for Lent--meaning the only time I use the internet on my phone is to look something specific up or if I otherwise need to importantly use it. (I've found spending too much time on the phone can be addicting and distracting from the world around me, so that's the reason for the temporary break.)
Of course, I still access the internet via my PC while I'm working so generally I have a decent idea of what's going on in the country and the world despite limiting myself regarding my phone use.
But Monday morning I went away with my family for a mini-vacation through Wednesday. Didn't have access to my PC and I limited myself on the phone, so I was more or less blind to the outside world. We kept busy so I didn't watch much TV or news either.
I did see little bits and glimpses of something about a leak of military plans, which sounded pretty wild, but without greater context I had no idea of the entire story.
Finally, I came home yesterday, turned on the internet and the news and---BOOM.
It's a crazy, crazy story of ineptitude, or even worse.

(31,236 posts)This is a BFD. When Hegseth said at the Senate hearing that it is legal to use Signal if it is backed up on a government device, right then Democrats should have demanded to see the conversations on the government device because they do not have them, they did not copy their conversations on a government device.
Malcolm Nance even said that Democrats didn't ask the right questions, they should have consulted with experts to guide them.
Malcolm also said that this is the greatest compromise to our national security in our nation's history.

(4,012 posts)This will stay in the News Cycle all the way through the attempts to hold criminal prosecutions for perjury and if convicted, then will stay in the News Cycle through the time that the Orange Shit Gibbon issues Federal Pardons.
This will stay in the News Cycle for quite some time to come...

(31,236 posts)It was planned this way. The mistake they made was including Jeffrey Goldberg or we would be none the wiser.
They want to be able to crime on Signal, have the conversations self-delete so if they are subpoenaed they will have no record of it.
Who is going to stop them from using Signal?
