He just can't stop tariff hikes!

He loses his battle with Canada & Mexico then imposes tariffs on the EU that was unsustainable! Now it is against foreign made cars at 25%.

He is so enamored with his ideas of taking targeted tariffs. He is forgetting that the US cars that are shipped to other countries will raise the tariff rates dramatically.

He is doing this to cover up the other issues and the scandal that is being played out in his administration. Just as he does, it more chaos to cover up the corruption and incompetence of his administration!

Of course he's excited about them. He just doesn't quite understand how that exactly works.

and since when are GOPers all revved up by the gov't taking in revenue? Would economic growth (and higher tax rev) be a better strategy?

That the rich people of the 1880’s were richer than now.
He is convinced that changing from an income tax, to tariffs, is going to make himself richer.
That’s the whole reason he’s doing it.

What do they think will happen here? The tariffs will somehow make up for their budget shortfalls and tax cuts?

US exports aren't subject to US tariffs, so our exports have no direct impact on tariffs or tariff rates. Are you just suggesting that other countries will impose reciprocal tariffs?

Tariffs aren’t something he cooked up on the spur of the moment to distract people from his other foulups. During the campsign, he constantly bragged about his plans for tariffs, so we know he's had thisin minds for a long time.

We know he has an obsession about "being taken advantage of," and by extention, other countries "taking advantage of" the U.S., and his attitude about tariffs seems to be closely related to this., illogical as it is.

I don't understand why he refuses to grasp the reality that tariffs imposed on things imported into this country come out of the pockets of American businesses, who will pass those costs down to American consumers, but the way he talks about this is extremely consistent and has been for a while. For whatever reason, he seems to have convinced himself that black is white and up is down where tariffs are concerned, and he's almost certainly never going to admit he's wrong (because that's just not a thing he does).

He definitely does do things to deliberately create distractions at times. I just don't think that's the case here.
