The tone deaf attitude of some people never ceases to amaze me.

(915 posts)It expanded into a huge forest & wild fire. The bill was $84M and 6 months in prison. That debt is not discharged in bankruptcy. People just have this attitude that it can't happen to me. But it will if the person doesn't use their brain.

(2,208 posts)After Maui crisped, we had idiots dying this new years from huge, poorly planned, poorly executed private fireworks display. What? 4? 6 people died, and thats because a mortar type firework fell over and spewed flame into other stored fireworks.
Humans may not be innately evil, but we are exceptionally stupid.

(3,566 posts)Deep in a forested canyon on a dry Labor Day weekend, a kid threw smoke bombs for a thrill. The fire burned down miles of the most beautiful landscape in the country. 140 hikers had to walk ten miles to safety with the fire at their backs.
Someone was a witness, and the kid was sued by the forest service for damages....$37 Million. Pretty large debt for a high school student.
The scars remain. Thousands of standing dead Douglas Fir snags are providing habitats. Hiking my favorite trails will not be the same in my lifetime.
