Politico has acquired an early list from Republican lawmakers that shows the programs they're considering slashing from the federal government.
It includes things like welfare, funds for climate programs, and the Affordable Care Act. It also states Republicans are looking at "changes" to Medicare something Donald Trump and many Republicans promised they wouldn't touch.
According to the list, published by Politico Friday, there are three big cuts to Medicare. Among those is the decision to equalize all payments across the country for the same procedure.

This is the end of Medicare basically.
At a minimum it would ruin supplemental plans that work with traditional medicare.
They would have to take all the burden of costs. They wouldn't stay in business.
"Currently, if someone on Medicare has a heart attack in Oklahoma, the costs would be different to the same procedure in Florida. The GOP wants to give the same amount regardless of location. So, if a Medicare patient lives in an area where medical care is more expensive, they will be on the hook for any overages."

(83,348 posts)the Third Rail is serious.
It's red meat for MAGAts (who are clueless as to what they would lose under such a scam).
Reagan used funds to cover his "Trickle Down" bullshit, that put SS, Medicare, and other programs at risk. Until then, the funds were separate under a Trust.
Far too many people rely on these programs to make it through the month or tackle medical problems. I'm covered by the VA (read: Govt sponsored HealthCare) and have no problems with getting anything I need. I don't have much in assets, but I can get by on SS and VA Disability. With rising prices and being there for family and fellow veterans, things might get ugly.
I'll live in my car before I can let people go hungry.

(83,348 posts)I am an Advocate for Veterans.
When in Boston, I had no problem going to the Top and airing my grievances (not for myself), but others that I thought were being denied the care they needed.
An aside, I have a black baseball cap with "Dysfunctional Veteran" over the classic National Seal and "Leave Me Alone" beneath.
At one point one of the "jacket and tie" yahoo's told me he found my cap "offensive".
Me: "OK, can you read?"
He: "Of course."
Me: "Take note of the second line."
He: "I would like you to take the cap off."
Me: "Shut the F*ck up and get out of my space, I've left better men than you lying face down in a rice paddy. Don't tell me what I can wear."
He: "Excuse me?"
Me: "This ends now, I'm here for a PTSD appointment with Mental Health the last thing I need is to be stressed by a piss-ant, f*ck off".
There were several Vets in the Waiting Area, various branches, one from WWII, the rest were Korea, Vietnam (like me), Desert Storm. A fellow 'nam vet asked me where I got the cap, I told him, and all nine of them grinned and said they knew the place, and would be going there.
I love my brothers and sisters who served. I'll be here for them as long as I can still breathe.

(294 posts)If the GOP wants to save $450 billion dollars a year, they should support Medicare For All. Medicare for All would save an estimated $450 billion dollars a year. Here is the summary to an article from the Lancet that supports that number.
[Faulty link to the Lancet article deleted. It is an article from February 15, 2020 in the Lancet called "Improving the prognosis of health care in the USA" for anyone that cares to search for the article.]

(13,410 posts)I think that the language you used will just further divide this country. A lot of Trump voters were reacting to stresses in their life that they didn't believe were adequately addressed by the Biden Administration so they were lashing out in frustration and voting for change. Of course many of those voters will eventually realize that their vote was not in their best interest. But making a mistake out of frustration and ignorance does not make them fascists.

The GOP is completely full of shit, as usual.
