We've learned that our for profit media is broken. It is about appearances, ratings and money - clicks, eyeballs, ad revenue. Those that dish up this crap are clearly not very smart - they can't deal with the complexity of the heaps of shit thrown at them by the corrupt republican party. Worse, they are not typically news - they are entertainment with the slant pushed by the wealthy right wing owner.
What else have we learned? We know that lies go unpunished. Criminality goes unpunished. We've seen cowardice. We've seen that our legal system does not work in this landscape of a firehose of lies and money.
Anyone see this getting better any time soon?
Then again, the climate will end up making all of this look utterly unimportant as the earth bakes, freezes, burns, drowns and destroys due to mankind's inability to grapple with the damage they've done, and continue to do.

(108,333 posts)We were deluded into thinking he (with Cheney et al) was some disgusting upper bound. Seeing Bush* at the Carter funeral and his shared disgust for Trump would have been amusing if it was not so damned serious. Geezus, this is how bad and how "normalized" this society and its media has taken our politics in the years since.
No, I'm not thinking wistfully about the Bush* years. Just that in 16 years we are now facing what may be fully irreparable--something I honestly never thought would be the case with Bush*-Cheney.
