"Heartbroken for my town and all that have lost homes and businesses.
And for my kid and her classmates at Altadena Arts Magnet/Eliot Arts Magnet. For 5th graders and above, this is the second time in their young lives they have gone to school one day like things were mostly normal, only to suddenly be told overnight that due to a disaster (Covid in 2020 and now the Eaton Fire) they suddenly wont be going back- indefinitely. She sadly said to me night before last- mom, I just want to go back to school again with my friends.
Thousands of students lost their homes. Teachers and Admin lost homes. Multiple school buildings are gone. I dont think they can even go back to a Covid online teaching model at this point.
These kids are either going to grow up to need intense attachment therapy, or to be the most resilient, self-reliant, ready-for-anything, dont trust authority kids. Hoping for more of the latter.
(Add to that for my kids grade in particular, one other year the teacher who was perpetually supposed to arrive from France in two weeks never got to set foot in the classroom, due to various visa and bureaucracy shenanigans.
Thank God for an awesome long term sub, but the kids expectations were definitely slammed to the ground repeatedly. 3 big emotional upheavals, and they arent even out of elementary school yet.)"
Children of America. They are who and what our fight for democracy and freedom are about.

I also think of all those in war torn countries.
It's sad wherever total destruction like this occurs.
That it happens to children is all the more reason we must guard our innocents from destruction.
She has since posted this very good news. Hopefully this very kind assistance is being coordinated across other destroyed communities.
