Disheartened? These people never gave up when faced with enormous obstacles.

John Lewis led the march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, and the crossing of Edmund Pettus Bridge, known as "Bloody Sunday," as state troopers brutally attacked marchers. Lewis suffered a fractured skull, and the events influenced the passing of the Voting Rights Act, which Lewis remained a staunch supporter of until his last days.

Did he worry what "pundits" thought?

Ruby Freeman and her daughter, Wandrea “Shaye” Moss

Giuliani’s lies in support of former President Donald Trump’s bogus stolen-election claims subjected them to a torrent of racist and violent threats and turned their lives upside down.

Did they buckle under harrassment?

Ruby Bridges became the first Black student at age 6 to integrate William Franz Elementary School—a white public school in New Orleans—in November 1960.

Angry onlookers jeered at Bridges as she walked by

She showed more courage than most adults in our time.

Rosa Parks

In 1955, she was arrested for refusing to give up her bus seat for white customers.

And just one more.

Reverend Martin Luther King

"There is nothing greater in all the world than freedom. It's worth going to jail for. It's worth losing a job for. It's worth dying for. My friends, go out this evening determined to achieve this freedom which God wants for all of His children." — Martin Luther King, Jr.

Is it OK to feel disheartened for a couple days, even weeks, and work through those feelings?

They have no time to feel bad because everyday there will be another assault. They have known what America is under her veneer of righteousness. Now the whole world knows it was bull droppings .
The greatest country in the world, moral majority, maga, empty slogans designed to make certain people feel good. Her foundation is rotten and corrupt, hopefully we can rebuild a better country when this is over. I doubt it.

We’re getting ready to kick some republican butt in the commonwealth. I tend to be cynical but they have shocked me with their capitulation to the orange maggot . A corrupt judiciary , compromised news sources and the majority of Americans don’t give a damn. I think I am a realist and I am preparing for some very dark days but I am going to work locally to make my community and my state safe.

And we need to support each other not just to better society; but by supporting each other, we create a better society, when others can only blame others (namely, us) for their failures, fears and weaknesses.

Pulling yourself out of a funk, even PTSD, alone is monumental, and I have done it, as have others.

"If one lights a fire for others, one will brighten one’s own way." ... Nichiren, a Buddhist sage.

If people would just look at the whole picture instead of just what's right in front of their faces here, there would be a lot less the sky is falling. I'm in it for the long haul.

Viola Gregg Liuzzo (1925-1965) was a white woman who was murdered by the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) while fighting for civil rights. Her death was a catalyst for the Voting Rights Act.

There are so many more. I like you JustAnotherGen but I take issue at your comment and am really disappointed.

I thought about the freedom riders who were murdered, and other leaders. These were poignant, and much respect to all who fought and who fight for justice.

Especially with an apartheid bro pulling the strings.

I plan to post more in the Activist forum.

Unless they feel some pain and even then they will blame it on minorities. America has never been good at self reflection, there is always some made up external threat and they fall in line real quick.
Climate change but I want to live near the water, the government sent hurricanes, Covid, china and I could go on and on. They don’t believe in sacrifice, they just want to be safe.

In common these people all share?

Dig into "The 92 Percent". We are on break.

All of those beatings, jailings, getting harassed, killed, etc etc

I seriously need to see the Dominant Culture (white Americans) to stand up, take the pain, go to jail etc etc first. We need white liberals to put their lives on the line, financial security, reputation in their community etc etc.

If I can see that for 3 or 4 years - I can stand behind those folks.

America has gotten too much free social justice labor from Black women. Now is our time for us to survive with the genetic trauma advantage of our ancestors. We know how to go behind the Dominant Culture to survive - and thrive.

You'll find us there.

They have a limiter that won’t allow anything that will make them uncomfortable. If they would only stop marching for civil rights everything will be okay. That Martin Luther king is a rabble rouser and a communist, if he would just stop preaching and marching we could forget about them not having their civil rights.

I have decided to continue "as if" for now that my life is holding up. I can only try to lift up my kids as they try to navigate adulthood...just getting a job or an apartment is a huge struggle!

I am living my life for me and uplifting people where and when I can, it is all I can do ...

But there are people right now alive today that have this courage and guts and maybe even a platform or an ability to make the sacrifices to keep the fight going, and I praise them for helping on my behalf as I navigate basic survival. And while there are those who have those resources and grit, ther are those who also have it worse than me. I will do my best to hold a seat at the table for all of us...even if I dont have a seat myself yet...

Does that make sense?

I have jotted down lots of altruistic projects over the years, but the circumstances were never right.

Steve Jobs found his Woz, and vice versa. (I am more the Woz type, FWIW)

And I moved to a place more isolated than I thought it would be.

I started sharing my ideas with younger people and we'll see what catches on.

People think that tech is the answer to all problems. Having been a techie all my life, I found that my tech ideas merely try to undo the damage that tech has done in the hands of sociopaths. They built massive complexity and forgot the simple.

Stay tuned.

But this is different. These are people that literally control everything. From local and state government in many cases, to federal government to news media to social media to pretty much all the money (even so-called "liberal" billionaires will still all side with their rightwing peers in the end). I mean there is very literally no legitimate outlet to tell our story with the same mass distribution that the rightwing has.
It looks pretty bad.

Anything we have suffered under the orange blob are miniscule compared to waking up everyday and being poor and black or brown in the country. If they can do it alone mostly we can join together and fight with them this time.

Short:

We need forceful, experienced and eloquent leaders.

Is there a new Dr. Martin Luther King?
An American Gandhi, Nelson Mandela or Desmond Tutu?
Howard Zinn, Benjamin Spock, Daniel Berrigan, and others outside the political races are gone.

Who has the skill with people and organizing/managing?
We have several. Look at the enormous skills of the Clintons, Barack Obama and Joe Biden
"but the primaries".

I left out Kamala because she may very well be involved in primaries.

I urge our current and former presidents and Secretary of State to lead us forward RFN, whoever runs in four years.
