Funerals like his are important because they showed the lifetime of American values (and the values of his kind of Christian) to a wide audience. It was moving and inspirational.

Trump did not show up for Rosalyn Carter's funeral and I don't think his absence generated much news at all.

I doubt it was anything to do with a facade. More likely a conflict with her schedule. Or possibly they don’t attend functions together where mob bosses will be in attendance to limit exposure in public as their children are still young.

During her 8 years in the White House, Mrs. Obama was unfailingly polite to all and correct in her behavior. In the years since then she and her husband have partnered in enterprises to inform and better the American people.
